Information about the studies:
The main aim of gymnázium(grammar school) is to prepare students for university studies.
Our students are at the same time being prepared for practical jobs in attractive branches
(banks, administration, savings banks, etc.) The studies at gymnázium are demanding, they
are determined for gifted students with excellent study results at basic schools.
Gymnázium in Orlová is to be found in a new, modern school building in the town centre and
there are:
-
Multi-purpose sports hall with a mountain climbing wall and a gymnastics hall
-
Special classrooms for language teaching, mathematics, history, geography, civics, music and art education
-
Laboratories and lecture rooms for sciences and biology
-
Three modern special classrooms for the work with PC, programming teaching, with the access to the Internet
-
School library, school canteen and buffet
The teaching at gymnázium proceeds according to the obligatory teaching plan fixed by the Ministry of Education
of the Czech Republic. The plan enables the Headmaster to set a variable grant of lectures for the individual subjects
according to the interest and possibilities of school so that students can to a certain extent determine the orientation
of their studies themselves. The students can choose from four languages: English, German, French and Russian.
The final school leaving exam - maturita - consists of four subjects: one foreign language, Czech language and the other two
subjects are chosen by the students according to their future choice of university studies or their future jobs. These optional
subjects are offered at our school: Latin, Descriptive Geometry, Application of computers and Programming, Language conversations,
Seminars from Mathematics, Sciences, Biology, Geography and History.
Volunteers may also attend the voluntary subjects: Choir singing, Art education, Artistic reading, Application of computers and Sport games.
Our school has been in contact with similar schools in the Swiss Illnau Effretion and the Polish Rydultowy for several years. We organize exchange
social and cultural activities with these schools.
At the moment we are planning a Comenius-Project with some other European schools.
The students take part in ski-training and sport tourist courses on the base of a voluntary participation.
Dance courses are also organized by our school.
The section for physical education is formed by:
-
A multipurpose sport hall with the size 45x24m with a mountain-climbing wall with 10 paths

From the History of Our Gymnázium:
Our school is the oldest secondary school in our region Těšín Silesia
(Těšínské Slezsko). It came into being together with the Gymnázium with
the Polish language in 1909. The first school year was taught in a private
building and it got its own building in 1911. The first Headmaster was Antonín
Lansfeld. At first only the west part of the school building was built because
of the finance shortage. The east part was built after WWI. This building served
to our Gymnázium till the autumn of 1938 when the Polish Army occupied Orlová and
a Polish Gymnázium was established here. However, it was abolished after WWII broke out.
|
After WWII the studies at Gymnázium were shortened to four years and in 1953 the Gymnázium
was deprived not only of its name, but also the building. It was called Eleven Year Secondary
School and was connected with a primary school near the Square in Orlová till 1960. However, this
building was not saved from the negative influence of mining and at the beginning of the school year
1960-61 it had to be moved to a new building in Orlová - Poruba. In 1968 the school was given back its
traditional name Gymnázium.
Two schools in one building - Gymnázium and a primary school - did not have enough place for their
development. It was decided after many dealings that Gymnázium would move to a school building in Orlová - Lutyně
where the school stayed till the end of the school year 1995-96, which was 13 years.
Nowadays our Gymnázium is to be found in a modern school building in the centre of Orlová.
